For the Senior Who Most Embodies the Society
Presented annually to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the Philolexian tradition. Endowed by Dr. Jeffrey Arle.
The Vinciguerra Award honors Thomas J. Vinciguerra (Class of 1985, 1963–2021), the Society's “Avatar” and the figure under whose guidance Philolexian was revived in October 1985. Tom served as Scriba, Treasurer, and Director of the Foundation across four decades until his death in February 2021. The award is given each spring to a graduating senior whose participation in the Society has, in the judgment of the student board and the senior Geezers, defined what it means to be a Philo.
Selection criteria include sustained presence at weekly meetings, contribution to the Society's literary culture (resolutions written, debates argued, Surgam issues edited), and the harder-to-name quality of having visibly carried the Society's spirit through one's four years.
